The use of dogs in search and rescue (SAR) is valuable in wilderness tracking, natural disasters, and in locating missing people. Dedicated handlers and well-trained dogs are essential to be effective in search efforts. At its most basic, the job of an SAR dog has two components: Find the origin of a human scent and let the handler know where it is. Search and rescue dogs are typically worked by a small team on foot. A dog’s nose can do what no other resource can, they can find a child who wandered too far from home or is lost in the woods, locate a skier buried in an avalanche, find live people trapped under a collapsed building or locate drowning victims, etc.
