K9 Academy International owner and  Training Director is Nino Islamcevic. Nino came from Europe in 1997, to live here in USA. Here is his brief background to introduce you with his extensive experience and knowledge.

Nino has been involved with our four legged furry friends for almost all of his life. Professionally training dogs for last fourteen years in following areas: Obedience, Tracking, Protection, Private lessons, Behavior modification, Problem solving, Shutzhund, Assistance/Service dogs, Police dogs, Specific odor scenting, Personal protection, Special tasks.

He earned title of IPO/Shutzhund Judge, Training Director, IPO/Sch Helper/Decoy, Instructor for private and group classes, certification for Assistance/Service dog trainer. Nino is also an established breeder and involved in socializing, raising puppies, conformation shows to CAC( National) & CACIB (International) Titles.

To mention some achievements In Shutzhund, Nino won one of the National Championships in Croatia IPO1 and was twice selected for Croatian Team for World Championships. With his dog Aga and for a Croatian Team, he was participant of World Champ IPO III 1996 Luxembourg. Now he is founder and Training Director of Grand Rapids Area Shutzhund Club, MI. Nino also achieved a title of Team leader/captain for AWDF USA Team for IPO World championship for utility dogs in 2001.


Nino has trained many dogs in Assistance/Service dog area and most of these dogs were trained to do unusual tasks. One of the most amazing dogs trained by Nino is a Golden Retriever that was actually trained to respond to Liberator (computer based communicating device), for the person in electric powered wheelchair. This dog is now working in the real life situations, performing well over forty commands, helping to overcome everyday challenges in new situations.

Training Police dogs for dual purpose, narcotics, specific odor scenting, building search, full suit biting, real life situations and fights, tracking, etc. Also temperament testing and placing dogs to serve and protect through working in Police Departments.

In all areas mentioned above Nino has trained well over 1,000 dogs!
